The Saga Continues....
Posted 9/3/2010 9:47:00 AM

This actually put me into fits of giggles when I saw this fabulous photoshop...lol! .. so just had to share. Relates to all the hoopla regarding the 'death' of Emerald - execution slated for 9-3-10 5 pm SLT - will a pardon be granted? will it all be a big ol' y2k-like anniversary party?

The trailer to the miniseries shows Revered Saint Linden mounted on the mighty winged Caticorn of Daboom ultimately slaying the naughty green troll of Emerald.

stay tuned for today's episode of Emeraldgate! lmao!

Still a die hard Emerald user .. I'll use Emerald until if and when it's blocked and knocks me off... I will use Emergence thereafter.

Emerging from the murkiness...

Emergence.

Just want to give out my opinion. It's simple really. Emegence. Get it.

In the event Emerald is blocked come Friday (possibly even in the event it isn't) - I highly recommend Lordgreggreg's Emergence Viewer. Hands down - you did well, Lordgreggreg... kudos to you dude!

This viewer has ALL the features of the latest Emerald release.. so close to my comfort zone...... I don't even feel homesick... Thanks!

Download it here: Emergence Viewer

The End
Posted 9/1/2010 2:49:17 PM

If I had a screwdriver right now..I'd stab myself with it....

sighs.... sadness. On a positive note... it will be resurrected... I just KNOW it!

this, from the Emerald Team this afternoon:

The End

This is the end, beautiful friend
This is the end, my only friend, the end
It hurts to set you free
But you’ll never follow me
The end of laughter and soft lies
The end of night we tried to die
This is the end

United we stand and divided we fall. Thus ends the final days of the Emerald Project.

Approximately 10 days ago I and a number of devs came together to reform the Emerald Team in the anxious hope of continuing the most popular TPV in Second Life. The incredible driving passion, flair for innovation, endless energy and camaraderie were all still there. Because of this, I was sure we could make this work.

Alas this was not to be. Linden Lab has made demands of the team that are impossible to meet. Among the demands not listed publicly elsewhere was to publicly release an RC without any ability to load the emkdu or llkdu files. This was do-able. The final demand was to ‘delete’ 3 key members of our team. While making this demand, Linden Lab was quite aware that this was effectively the guillotine to the project.

This is the opportunity for a fork project to develop and create a TPV version of snowstorm, which is what Linden Lab really wants. I am aware of a number of small projects underway now, and I wish them the best, the very best in their endeavors.

For you, the user, what this means is that there will not be any further releases of the Emerald Viewer after today. The existing releases will continue to operate until Linden Lab decides to terminate their access and end Emerald once and for all.

There will be one final version of the Emerald Viewer released here later today; that is, the viewer we’ve been working on for the past six months. It would be a shame to let the efforts of the developers who put so many unpaid hours into this project go to waste.

This virtual world is ever changing and must be, otherwise it will stagnate. This incredible environment will continue.

Arabella Steadham
Communications Manager,
Emerald Project

CLARIFICATIONS

- Because there was no consensus amongst the developers about whether or not to comply with Linden Lab’s requirement to remove three core developers, Lonely Bluebird offered to leave the Emerald project only if the team voted for this. Rather than wait for any kind of vote, a hostile takeover was attempted by a portion of the Dev Team trying to gain unauthorized access to the emerald servers without knowledge of the others (including me, the server owner).

- the vote eventually took place, with a minority even voting. This few that voted did not all vote in favour of removing Lonely Bluebird. The vote took place after the takeover failed, for forms sake

- Linden Lab has made it abundantly clear and in fact stated quite bluntly that they want Emerald numbers, which at this point in time number around 50% of total Second Life logins. These have been the stats for some months now.

- The primary issue that resulted in the demise of Emerald was the attempted and failed takeover of the project, far in advance of any requirements deadline set by Lindenlab. This hostile takeover was initiated by Jessica Lyon.

***UPDATE***

As at 2.00pm SLT today, an attempt was made to pervert the in world open Emerald viewer group by a known griefer using the account Greenlife Emerald. As a consequence of this, I tried to close the group down. Unfortunately, I could not do this in time, so many will now no doubt read disturbing notices put out by Greenlife Emerald. I suggest you read this blog for any information on Emerald.

Please note, no other group has the legal right to use the name Emerald or Emerald Viewer.

Land of Oz...
Posted 8/31/2010 4:15:48 PM

The Emerald City...that is...

It's clear, I love me some Emerald, to be sure. There are so many features in the viewer that it's hands down the best on the grid, in my opinion. While I've had a few hinky things occur in each version of Emerald as it progresses, nothing thus far has ever made me want to dump it and use any other viewer - and yes, I've tried them all out, so I am not saying anything blindly. To include the latest fubar by (one or more of) the Emerald Team. What was done was wrong - but it's being resolved and people should really seek out information and be informed before making judgment. Just my opinion.

There is SO much hype and crap goin round about Emerald these days (heh.. nothing new...lol) that I feel compelled to share information. Albeit, this is from the Emerald Team's standpoint, I honestly believe it is sincere and good information. Alot of people hear things - and like the telephone game - they don't get all the information, or some of what started out as truth, is far distorted by the time it gets to you. Who am I? Nobody. Nothing to do with Emerald. Nothing to do with anything really. Just a girl with an opinion who likes to be informed and, in turn, informative.

My take on the Emerald saga. They f*cked up. They got called out on it. They have and are taking the necessary steps to rectify the situation. Good enough for me. These people have brought us an amazing tool with which to play in SL. Sure, there were a couple bad apples in the barrel from time to time - but each time it seems to have been remedied, as far as I can tell.

Here's an analogy: I have an amazing family. We are close and help one another out. We do things in our community to help people - family, friends, and strangers alike. There is one among us, that we don't care to even acknowledge is part of our family as she has done horrific, unethical and criminal things in her life. What she did, does, or will do, does not, in any way make us like her or guilty of anything other than the fact she was somehow born into this family. This is how I view the situation with Emerald. Think on it people.

These people DONATE their time and talent, to bring us something we DEMAND. We all bitch about the viewers. We bitch about SL. We bitch about LL. Here we are. We aren't going anywhere. We all have friends and family here that we've grown to love. We really aren't going anywhere soon.

I have to go now, I'm all vaclempt and wanna write a nice letter to the Emerald Team. I wonder how many kudos they get for what they've given us with their own spare time with nothing but pissing and moaning given back to them?

Here's some information for ya, from the Emerald Team directly. Inform yourselves. Then decide.

A few various things..

A few notes we would like to share with our users.

First: On Saturday, Jessica Lyon and Arabella Steadham sat down and answered questions on a live broadcast called Rezzed.tv. You can watch the recording of that interview here: http://rezzed.tv/2010/08/rezzed-tv-presents-emerald-your-questions-answered/.

Second: Windows users, please note that if you update to 2587, you may experience crashes on login. We have determined this is a bug related to Windows and how it handles temporary files. Although the 2587 installer no longer contains emkdu, Windows seems to be pulling it from our users’ temporary Windows files. Despite an update we made to our installer which looks for emkdu and attempts to delete it if present, the issue still seems to be present for some users.

To be sure to avoid this, please follow these steps prior to installing 2587.
1/ Using Windows Search, search for emkdu.dll and delete all instances of it.
2/ Install 2587 but don’t launch it yet.
3/ Go into your 2587 install folder, look for emkdu.dll. If you see it, delete it.
4/ Launch the viewer.

Third: We have decided that it will be safer for us to provide our list of requirements from LL as we achieve them. What is most important right now is the preservation of the viewer project and our ability to fulfill the requirements. Announcing the items we have not yet fulfilled may put our ability to fulfill them at risk and thus, put the project at risk. We will continue to provide you with our requirements as we achieve them.

The following is a list of requirements we feel we have fulfilled so far.

1/ Use open mailing lists or forums for your developer communications. We will all be dedicating more time on our forum to respond to your questions and concerns from this point forward. In the past we have not been dedicated to our forum due to time constraints, this changes now.

2/ Provide a publicly viewable source code repository. We have created a public Mercurial source code repository for our users. This repository is kept up to date in real time. When we make a change to the code, it will be added to the repository. All our users will essentially be able to watch us work and see our code changes and additions from this point forward. http://hg.emeraldviewer.net/

3/ Provide public code commit notices. You will note on our hg repository page, there is an RSS feed button. This will keep our users up to date with all of our code commit messages.

4/ Require each committer to provide real-world identity information to Linden Lab as a signatory to the certification of compliance with the Third Party Viewer Policy. To the best of our knowledge, Linden Lab has the RL information for each and every one of us. We have however, asked LL to verify that they do and anyone they don’t have, we will provide it.

5/ Update your posted Privacy Policy for the Emerald Viewer to specifically describe what user data has been collected or stored by any version of the Emerald viewer that may be used to log into Second Life. For all user data collected or stored, specifically describe in the policy how that user data has been used, displayed or shared. We have updated our Privacy Policy and are waiting for word from LL if it is acceptable. You may review it here: http://emeraldviewer.net/privacypolicy.shtml

We do not yet know if Linden Lab is satisfied that we have fulfilled these items yet. If they say they don’t feel we’ve done enough, we will do more. ADDED< There are two items left to fulfill, we will make them public as soon as we have done so>

We know that we have to earn back the trust of both the user community and of Linden Lab. We understand where LL’s coming from, and we’re working hard to meet their requirements while still maintaining a viable development process for Emerald. We honestly believe it’s the best viewer on the grid, and want to keep it that way. We’ll do what it takes to stay on top, both technically and in the minds of our users.

Sincerely, The Emerald Viewer Dev Team

Anj Gustafson LIVE @ Phases
Posted 8/26/2010 7:36:44 AM

Phases Party in the Park is pleased to announce that Anj Gustafson will be back to entertain us on Saturday, August 28th @ 2pm SLT.
Phases Party in the Park

Keyboardist/guitarist/flautist/vocalist Andreus 'Anj' Gustafson has been performing in RL for many years. He has toured the USA, Japan and Korea in cover bands since the late 1980's and now brings a collection of his original tunes and songs that he likes in to Second Life in hopes of finding others who also enjoy the same sort of popular, though slightly eclectic, tastes as he does. At a typical Anj performance, one just might hear songs by artists such as The Beatles, Coldplay, Radiohead, Emerson, Lake and Palmer, Willie Porter, Jethro Tull, Matchbox 20, Sting.... etc. Plus a few original songs thrown in for good measure. There is sure to be a little something for everyone.

Hope to see you there!

Amazing
Posted 8/19/2010 3:41:58 PM

So today, I'm watching the clock.. willing it to be 4:30 so this day will end! At 4:13 my cell phone rings. Man says, "Is this Tammy?". Uh.. yea. He says I have a delivery for you but you aren't at home. Nope, at work. He asks me how long will you be there? I said, another 15 minutes. On my way. Five minutes later, my receptionist buzzes my office telling me there is something at the front desk for me. I'm all grinnin and heart beating fast.. cuz there is only one person it could possibly be from... oh yea...I know who it's from. My amazing man, Phase, sent me flowers today! My heart is gonna burst people!

I cannot touch him... touch his beautiful face.. hug him and kiss him ... not yet....but this? this was like.. the next best thing. He walked into a floral shop 23,000 miles aways from where I am... and put into motion the most touching thing anyone has done for me... I must have done something amazing and astounding.. to have his love....he sent me flowers today!

Phase, I love you Baby.... more than life itself. You are amazing.

Love,
Tam

SUCCESS! Woodstock 2010
Posted 8/17/2010 3:41:36 PM

Underground Garage's weekend long Steppin Back to Woodstock 2010 was a HUGE success! Layla Mesmeriser and MrDs Magic did an amazing job recreating a woodstock-like place for TONS of people to hang out over the long weekend. The shows went well - Friday and Saturdays shows (Janis Joplin - The Who)were a bit laggy and made performing like a badly choreographed syncronized swim event - they still went well and had huge crowds.

Nim as Janis Joplin

Phase - rockin the dreads and bangin the drums.. he rocks!

Sundays show - Jimi Hendrix was nothing short of amazing! LL had to do a hard reset of the sim, and there was virtually ZERO lag goin on - the members of Underground Garage Productions were really able to lay it on and interact with each other for an amazing rockin show! Jimi even blew up his guitar at the end of the show (after we did an encore to the wild screams of the crowd!).

Thats me as Larry Lee, jammin with Jimi Hendrix.... check out my cool headband that my man made me... HE LOVES ME!

My guitar solo... brought Jimi and Bill to their virtual knees! LMAO!

Thank you Layla, MrD and Mac, for all your love and dedication to making others smile. You are good people, and have been planted squarely in my heart since the day I met you when I stumbled across your amazing Garage and didn't want to leave .... it's hand down, my favorite club on the grid! What a success the entire weekend was! So fabulous, in fact.. they're Woodstockin it up ALL week long! check it out.. you won't be sorry! CLICK THIS LINK TO GO THERE!

Happy Lughnasadh!!
Posted 8/1/2010 6:05:21 AM

I'm really a simple person. For years it was to me put on ginormous elaborate fanfare events in regards the various holidays. I've gotten back to me. What matters. and today, I celebrate First Harvest - simply. No big bells and whistles.. no dramatic entrance or dialogue. Yesterday I had some time to kill while my significant other slept in a different time zone. I cleaned, ran errands, and made dough for ciabata bread (I put a bit of saffron in the dough - which in my tradition is used to imbue foods with the manna from the Heavens, thereby filling the recipient with good luck and prosperity. My favorite. This morning, my house smells like HEAVEN... bread baking as I type. My parents and daughter and a couple friends will stop by today early afternoon for an hour or so to eat that bread. We'll hug and kiss and wish each other the best of the crop for the coming season. We do it regular.. like clock work.

To all of you that have touched me - I wish you well and plenty this first harvest. Take those ideas and dreams and loves, that you've seeded and nurtured this past bit.. and celebrate them. Celebrate the good in your lives. Reep what you have sown, and I hope you've seeded well!

Tohiya...
Nimue

Some history, for those that are interested:

Lughnasadh (pronounced loo-nus-uh) is the holiday generally celebrated as the time of the first harvest on August 1st every year. Its more modern Irish name is Lunasa.

Later, it was adopted into Christian tradition as Lammas, which means loaf mass referring to bread baked from the harvest's first grains. It marked the beginning of autumn in the agricultural year.

The Beginning of the Harvest:
At Lughnasadh, the hot days of August are upon us, much of the earth is dry and parched, but we still know that the bright reds and yellows of the harvest season are just around the corner. Apples are beginning to ripen in the trees, our summer vegetables have been picked, corn is tall and green, waiting for us to come gather the bounty of the crop fields. Now is the time to begin reaping what we have sown, and gathering up the first harvests of grain, wheat, oats, and more.

This holiday can be celebrated either as a way to honor the god Lugh, or as a celebration of the harvest.

Celebrating Grain in Ancient Cultures:
Grain has held a place of importance in civilization back nearly to the beginning of time. Grain became associated with the cycle of death and rebirth. The Sumerian god Tammuz was slain and his lover Ishtar grieved so heartily that nature stopped producing. Ishtar mourned Tammuz, and followed him to the Underworld to bring him back, similar to the story of Demeter and Persephone.

In Greek legend, the grain god was Adonis. Two goddesses, Aphrodite and Persephone, battled for his love. To end the fighting, Zeus ordered Adonis to spend six months with Persephone in the Underworld, and the rest with Aphrodite.

A Feast of Bread:
In early Ireland, it was a bad idea to harvest your grain any time before Lammas -- it meant that the previous year's harvest had run out early, and that was a serious failing in agricultural communities. However, on August 1, the first sheafs of grain were cut by the farmer, and by nightfall his wife had made the first loaves of bread of the season.

The word Lammas derives from the Old English phrase hlaf-maesse, which translates to loaf mass. In early Christian times, the first loaves of the season were blessed by the Church.
