Stranger in a Strange Pub
Posted 8/11/2010 9:55:07 PM

A lone traveler from distant lands, I found myself in a fog-shrouded avenue, footsteps echoing sharply. The waxing moon seemed like a ghost overhead, a halo emanating around it from the layer of fog cloaking the city. Buildings, made flat and gray in the swirling mist, loomed over me menacingly.

"It has to be here somewhere," I muttered to myself. I rubbed my cold hands together in a feeble attempt at warmth.

The sound of my own whispered voice startled me; it sounded unnaturally loud in the quiet street. I consulted a worn and tattered map, given to me by a stranger who resembled some twisted version of Nosferatu in a top hat.

"It is called the Bucket of Blood, Mr. Eel," he explained in a silky and hypnotic voice. "There you will find the Landlord. He has a room to let."

With a sharp cackle, he flipped his cloak and slid out of view in the misty night, eddies of fog swirling and obscuring him from view quickly. An involuntary shiver racked my body at the sound of the stranger's voice. I felt like a dead man walking. . .

Shrugging off the ill feeling, I turned a corner and saw a sign creaking over a soot-covered door, lit by the muted glow of a gaslamp. The faded letters read, "Bucket of Blood", but the bright red liquid oozing from a tipped bucket on that sign was suspiciously wet. I thought I could hear dripping.

Stop it! I thought, hunching my shoulders against that spine chill. It's just a pub, and you're here to see the room. Nothing more. There are no monsters, and vampires don't exist. . .

My nightmares were invading my too-vivid imagination, rampant and uncontrollable. Though I tried to steel myself against the frightening images of vampires and Jack the Ripper style killers lurking in the shadows, the feeling of dread and fear would not leave me be.

Immersed in these thoughts, I was startled by a dark figure as it appeared suddenly from the doorway below the cobbled road, flashing a crooked grin. All I could see was a flash of eyes and a glint from his teeth, as he tipped his top hat with a slight bow, and melted into the light. . .

"It is good to see you again, Mr. Eel. I am Mr. Underby, the Landlord."

A glint of teeth, a flash of. . .something. . .from the shadowed brim of that hat. I felt the shiver again. Wasn't this the same person who had given me the map of the city?

"I. . .I've come to take a look at your room for rent, Mr. Underby," I stammered.

"Follow," he commanded, as he glided down the stairs like a bat, and held open the door.

I hesitated, then crept down the stairs. Mr. Underby led me through a darkened doorway, and up some narrow stairs. We stopped at the head of a short hallway.

"That door is kept locked," Mr. Underby purred. "For obvious reasons. Come. This is your room."

He took out a giant tarnished keyring, flipped through a few ancient keys.

"Ah," he said softly, inserting a key into the lock. The door groaned as he pushed it open, revealing a tiny room with reddish and peeling wallpaper.

He handed me a small piece of parchment.

"Those are the term, Mr. Eel."

I nodded. The rates seemed reasonable, even if the Landlord did make me think he'd rather tear out my throat and drink my blood, than rent a small room to a taylor like me.

"It looks fine, Mr. Underby. Yes, this will work. Thank you."

"Welcome to Thunderclap Hall, Mr. Eel." he said, his voice silky and. . .was that menacing? My imagination was still running away with me. I had my head bent for a moment to pull out my wallet.

"Thank you, Mr. Underby. . ."

I looked up, but he had vanished.

I could still hear the faint malicious laughter echoing downstairs.

Will I survive having a shop over the Bucket of Blood? Only time will tell. . .

If you happen to be traveling New Babbage, check out the store. My main store is still located in Burmilla, as well.

If Only You Could See What I See With Your Eyes
Posted 7/29/2010 3:17:58 PM

When Avatar Bizarre first started out, it was mostly eyes. A few people bought these eyes, including a friend of mine, who purchased a beautiful pair of deep blue eyes.

A week later, she'd sent me an offline thanking me because my eyes helped her have a "great time", wink, wink, nudge nudge, know what I mean?

That's as good a testimonial as anything you'd see on the likes of Yelp.com or reviews on eBay, don't you think?

In other news, crickets don't smell very good.

In my New World Order, crickets fed to pet lizards would smell better and make no noise. There's always one that escapes, hides in the crack behind the refridgerator, and chirps incessantly and off-key.

Escapees never sound like the peaceful buzz of crickets outside. They're always bloody nuisances.

New Wave Ministrone
Posted 7/24/2010 10:09:45 PM

I made my debut at Arashi Do Saturday night. It was an 80s set, but I don't play *those* 80s, unless requested.

If you join me for my sets, you not only get to hear some great rarities and forgotten gems, but you also get a musical education. Plus you get random bits of trivia because my brain is chock full of useless information!

That said, this was my set list for Saturday, July 24 from 7-9pm.

Asterix denotes a request. Don't ever be shy about requesting. With just under 50,000 songs in inventory, I probably have what you want, and play a variety of genres (but please, no Hanson or Celine Dion, or I may have to hurt you). If I don't have what you ask for, I can always have it for next time. I owe a song to Damien next time, even though I still played the band he asked for.

:D***:D

DJ Sred's Resurrection Saturday, aka New Wave Ministrone (because you never know what you'll get, but it's delicious with bread).

The Birthday Massacre - Neverending Story
Lights of Euphoria - Wicked Game
Magazine - Shot By Both Sides
Blancmange - Blind Vision
The Cure - Freakshow (Wolves at the Gate Remix)
Bauhaus - Ziggy Stardust
Peter Murphy - Warm Leatherette *
The Enemy - Be Somebody
Sideway Look - One For You
Simple Minds - New Gold Dream
Duran Duran - The Chauffeur
Camouflage - The Great Commandment
Love and Rockets - So Alive
Butthole Surfers - Human Cannonball *
Generation X - Dancing With Myself
Benjamin Orr - Hold On

The Jam - A Town Called Malice
Willie and the Poor Boys - Baby Please Don't Go

More Steampunk at Avatar Bizarre
Posted 7/22/2010 2:52:39 PM

Dirk Dastardly may have been a wicked villain, out to tie defenseless heroines to railroad tracks, but the real mastermind behind All That Is Evil in the Steampunk World is Doctor Calgori. His Monocle affords him xray vision for ease of cheating at Poker (and, well, somewhat lewd activities involving girls), a pair of scripted color-change goggles (for night vision), a dashing great coat with or without the cape, his bag of evil no-goodnik widgets, and that slightly Not Evil fashion sense that helps him sneak into High Society.

Other costumes in the series: Herr Drosselmeyer, Aether Pilot, Sky Captain, and the Mad Alchemist. Soon to come. . .it's a bit of a mystery, but stay tuned.

Got a Question
Posted 7/2/2010 2:34:01 PM

There's something I've been curious about for a while.

I know that some people will hide the groups they're in for whatever reasons they may have. While it's not something I understand, as Second Life is supposed to be a social platform and seeing groups listed can sometimes help break the ice in conversation, but I respect a person's need to keep such information hidden from the world at large.

What I really don't get, though, is the need to have that one really unfriendly-sounding group in view that states all of your groups are hidden? Why? When I see a blank group section in someone's profile, and they aren't newbies, I assume they've hidden their groups. Why advertise the fact that your groups are hidden?

It almost makes me want to contact the people who have these things and ask them why, but I figure if you have that kind of thing in your profile that you really don't want to talk to anyone you don't know.

Am I right about this?

Enquiring minds want to know.

Open Letter to the Mass TP People
Posted 3/14/2010 11:41:19 AM

Dear Mass TPer,

When I add someone as a friend in Second Life, it is not an invitation to send me mass TPs to some club. You know when you meet me that I'm a DJ. My schedule is in my picks. You also know I own a store called Avatar Bizarre, and I'm working on new clothes if I'm not DJing. If you join my group, you will see the notices going out for whatever place I happen to be playing.

That said, please don't send me a TP without IMing me first. First of all, I'm pretty busy. But also, it's pretty annoying since more often than not, you send more than one if I don't show up right away.

Trust me when I say I will not respond to your mass TP in a positive way.

I will not delete you from my friends. I will simply respond with my own TP to you, for every TP you send me. It doesn't matter where I am or what I'm doing, I'll send you a reciprocal TP. Oh, did that make you angry when you accidentally took my TP while you were dancing on that pole trying to make money, only to end up at my building platform?

Well guess what? I've had jokers like you send a mass TP just as I was switching a stream on a shoutcast board. With such great timing not only did I end up in your club (sorry I have zero interest in watching pixels pole dance and get naked for tips), but I was unable to effectively do my job and the club I just got yanked from will be without music till I get back.

Thank you so very much.

Mass TPers, just don't. If you really want me to show up at your club, just send a friendly IM telling me about a cool party.

KTHXBAI

Your pal,
Sred

Avatar Bizarre - New eyes!
Posted 2/11/2010 10:45:59 AM

Bring out your inner animal with these two-toned eyes from Avatar Bizarre.

First up is the Maneki Neko; the Lucky Cat.

Maneki Neko beckons good luck, and can be found with either the right or left paw raised (and sometimes both). The belief is the higher the raised paw, the greater the luck. In the world of the Japanese Bobtail (a living representation of the Maneki Neko statue), the rare odd-eyed cat is highly prized. So bring yourself a bit of good luck with the Maneki Neko eyes. The base pair is Ice blue (commonly called Silver in Japan), while the amber eyes (called Gold in Japan) are adjustable prims. One prim for the left and one for the right, you get to choose your own look with these fantastic eyes.

Next, we have a pair of Husky eyes. The Husky's eyes can be brown, ice blue, parti-colored, or odd, as offered here today. The base pair is ice blue, and there is a right and a left deep brown eye. You can wear one, or both, or neither, and still have an awesome husky look.

Last, but certainly not least, we have the human portion of our program. These Two-Toned eyes come with an Irish green base pair with the two prim eyes showing a fantasic violet hue. This pair of eyes is very striking, and will have people doing double-takes as they realize how odd your eyes can be.

Be sure to check out the great eye section at Avatar Bizarre for a wide variety of photo-realistic animal eyes, as well as some beautiful human eyes.
