The Girl With The Clobber Costume Posted 7/24/2010 12:40:23 PM I was chatting with someone at my club the other day. She bought a few of my costumes to use at a photoshoot. Well, she was kind enough to contact me last week and share the results with me, and here they are.

Pretty spectacular, aren't they? I think the Storm one in particular looks like it could easily grace the shelves of your local magazine store.
My thanks to the gorgeous model, Aphrodite Brianna, and her photographer Shaeddyn Demonge. And if you would like to share your heroic pictures, please get in touch!

Heroes Relay for Life - The Result Posted 7/12/2010 2:08:56 AM The Heroes 24 hour DJ-a-thon in aid of Relay for Life is now officially over. The kiosks have been cleared away, the DJs have been tucked up in bed, still trembling, and of course the donations have been counted.
I am truly delighted to announce that over the 24 hour period we made a staggering L$201,000 for this wonderful charity. I can honestly say that I have never, ever been prouder of my club and its members and staff than I am right now. We are a long way from being the biggest club in SL, and to make such an amount is awe-inspiring.
I have lots of thank yous. To our DJs, who not only gave their time for free, but also gave very generously to the appeal:
Azrai, Caliente, Darrius, Cherry, Abel, Wani, Virginia, Ophi (both of whom stepped in at the very last minute when others weren't able to make it), BigJ, Beth, Red
Guys, we literally couldn't have done it without you.
To our hosts and hostesses, who also gave up their own time to come and send notices, hustle people into the club and keep the donations flowing. You know who you are, and you have my heartfelt thanks.
And, most of all, to each and every one of you who came to the club, helped make the atmosphere the best its ever been, and donated. Whether big or small, it doesn't matter. Some of you gave every last linden you had. Every one counted. And this weekend, you were ALL Heroes.
On behalf of my team, thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

Relay for Life Posted 7/9/2010 5:13:25 AM
We'll be doing something really heroic at Heroes this weekend. For the first time ever, the club will open for a full 24 hours, starting at 9am SLT on Saturday, 10 July. We'll be running a DJ Marathon in aid of Relay for Life, the cancer charity, with no less than eleven of SL's finest DJs taking part in a day-long relay. You'll see several of Heroes' best-known, best-loved faces, together with lots of other talent and maybe even the odd surprise or two.
All the DJs and their hosts are giving their time for free, and Heroes will not make any money from this event. Every last Linden you donate will go straight to Relay for Life. We all know someone who has been affected by cancer. Please come along and support this hugely worthwhile event, and donate what you can.
As a special reward for you, I've even made a distinctive commemorative hero costume, featuring the RfL logo on a fully tintable bodysuit, so you can choose your very own colour scheme. This costume will ONLY be available from Heroes for the duration of this event, after which it will be withdrawn forever. To get your free copy, simply donate 100L to the vendor at Heroes Club.

This weekend, be a Hero for real!
"The American Cancer Society Relay For Life is a life-changing event that gives everyone in communities across the globe a chance to celebrate the lives of people who have battled cancer, remember loved ones lost, and fight back against the disease. At Relay, teams of people camp out at a local high school, park, or fairground and take turns walking or running around a track or path. Each team is asked to have a representative on the track at all times during the event. Because cancer never sleeps, Relays are overnight events up to 24 hours in length."

Total Recall? Posted 6/15/2010 1:24:26 AM I'm very sorry to have to report that I have been in an accident. I'm afraid it must have been a pretty serious one, as I have absolutely no recollection of it whatsoever.
The first I knew of this incident was yesterday, when I received a text on my mobile phone informing me that, as a result of my recent accident, I may be eligible for up to £3,750 compensation.
Needless to say, I have replied, asking if my apparent amensia will result in an increase in the amount I can claim. You never know, that new Nightmobile might be closer than I think!

Did You Hear About The Lindens? Posted 4/28/2010 1:41:45 AM They are my new friends! Yes, really. I received a letter from them today advising me to ensure that I am using a viewer which complies with their ominously-named Third Party Viewer Policy (insert sinister music here). Rather charmingly, it was signed by "Your Friends at Linden Lab".
Nice though that sentiment may be, I'm afraid I must report that it is completely untrue. My Friends list (on the now TPVP-compliant Emerald viewer that I use) may be long, but I have actually met or at least spoken to everyone on it at least once. I've never met a Linden, even causally. I wondered if maybe they had snuck on there in secret, without my knowledge, but an exhaustive search of my list has failed to turn up any Lindens whatsoever.
Still, far be it from me to spurn their advances. As the old adage has it, there are no strangers, just friends we've yet to meet. Though frankly, I've never quite understood that. There are any number of people who I would just as soon remained strangers to me, such as the entire population of Her Majesty's prisons, for example, or indeed most of Her Majesty's Government. But I digress.
Just drop me an IM, Lindens, and I will happily accept your friendship. I'll even give a free Heroes Clobber costume of your choice to the first Linden to come and dance at my club, Heroes.
And now I'm off to write a letter to my great pal the taxman.
Hugs

A Series Of Fortunate Events Posted 3/26/2010 4:00:17 AM I am in a particularly good mood today. This week has been a lot of fun.
Heroes Club is buzzing right now. We've got a new DJ, Azrai, in a brand new earlier 11am timeslot on Tuesdays and Fridays, and she's an absolute hoot. Together with her hostess Becca, she's filling the place with a combination of wacky themes and infectious enthusiasm. We've got an old friend returning too, as DJ Beth West will be kicking off a brand new Australian event very soon.
Coming up tomorrow (Saturday), we'll be running one of our most ambitious events yet, as Aliens come to Heroes. I'll have the opportunity to make lots of space-related puns as I'll be hosting for DJ Caliente, and one of our fabulous hostesses, Adia, has worked very hard to come up with the most awesome decorations for this theme. She, with a little help from our very good friend Garbo at Cupidity Creations, has also made a brand new game which will make its debut at this event. I promise that you will not have seen anything like this game before in Second Life.
Our Shady Landlady, Ro, is carrying out some secret building works in other areas of the club. I'm not supposed to say any more, but if you hunt around you may find things changing.
And on 1 April, we are taking part in the "Just For The Girls" hunt. Heroes is store 12 on the list, and if you can find a pink fedora, you will get my Black Canary costume absolutely free! I Wonder where it could be hidden.
Speaking of costumes, I've just released my latest two, a little-known but rather gorgeous heroine called Songbird, and the very well known but not quite so gorgeous Hulk, complete with shapeshifter technology! Both are available at the club and on xStreet, Apez.biz and Slapt.me.
And speaking of costumes, last night I sold my 1000th. I never thought, when I started out making a few simple outfits for dancers at the club, that it would lead to this, and I'm feeling pretty happy right now.
Hugs & Kisses

Merry Christmas - and a free gift! Posted 12/21/2009 2:20:30 AM
Well, it's almost time, and we're already in the Christmas mood at Heroes! Events will probably happen as and when over the break, but if you get yourself over there now you can pick up an early gift for yourself. Just find the above Christmas card in the club and click it, you'll receive this costume, the very latest from Heroes Clobber, absolutely free! It's just my way of saying thanks for reading my drivel over the last year!

I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Kisses & hugs

An xStreet-car Named Desire? Posted 12/3/2009 3:43:20 AM LL have announced change to the way xStreet will work in the shape of a new "Roadmap for Managing Freebies". You can find the blog here, along with links to the actual document. Here's my response to the blog:
Firstly, I'm not entirely opposed to LL charging for the use of xStreet. It's their right to make money from it, and I understand that it does cost money to service a site like this.
What I object to is the method LL have employed to announce this, which is disingenuous at least, if not downright dishonest.
Firstly, they claim to have consulted the merchants, and that this action has widespread support. I think the response to this blog disproves that. I have been selling my items on xStreet for several months now, and heard about this roadmap entirely by chance, in common with many other of my friends who also sell on xStreet. I've certainly never heard of "office hours" before, but am not in a position to attend them anyway because of time zone issues. xStreet emails me when I make a sale, or get a review. Why was it not possible to email merchants, who are after all the most significantly affected by this isse, and invite wider feedback?
Secondly, this broad statement that the roadmap will reduce clutter avoids the key issue, which is that the main problem with xStreet is not freebies. In fact, they are part of its delight, and the reason why until now it's been such a great place to send newbies. Many people list items cheaply or for free, not because they are promoting something, but out of a genuine desire to help others. What a kick in the face for them this is!
xStreet could be vastly improved with a few simple actions.
1. Improve the search engine. When I search for a red dress on eBay, I can make sure that only listings with the phrase "red dress" come up. On xStreet, it will bring up any item with either the word "red" OR "dress" an the title, the description, in fact anywhere in the listing. That is almost worse than useless.
2. Allow a single listing for items in multiple colours. This is just common sense.
3. Require merchants to relist items that don't sell within a set time period, say one month. This would clear out those stale items which really do clutter up the site and most likely don't come with adequate customer support.
4. Clamp down on keyword spam. Because of the rubbish search engine, this is one of the most irritating features of xStreet at the moment. A search brings up any number of completely unrelated items, simply because of unscrupulous merchants putting lists of words at the foot of their listings to increase traffic.
Why won't LL make these changes? Because they involve time, effort and money. Implementing the charging structure is less work and means instant income, and hang the quality of the site. The tragedy is that a properly functioning site with the features I've outlined above would be easier to use and almost certainly increase traffic and income. After all, how many times have you given up on xStreet and not bought anything - not because it wasn't there, but because you simply couldn't find it?
Instead, they'll plump for a third tier of fees. You'll pay for the land where you place your Magic Box (either in tier fees or by using the "free" land for which you pay a premium membership). You'll pay a commission when you sell an item. And pretty soon you'll pay to list them as well.
Colossus Lindeon, the moderator of the blog post relating to this issue, is are aptly named. His responses on this thread have been a colossal waste of time. Simply agreeing with those who support LL, and refusing to even consider the concerns of those who don't is not good customer service, and for a business that so heavily relies on customer-created material, that is unacceptable.
And that's it, folks. Merchants are already pulling out of xStreet. They're visiting similar sites that offer the same service, but don't act in such a high-handed manner with their customers. If you want to do the same, why not visit Apez.biz, slapt.me or Meta-Life and show LL that they should try listening to us, just for a change.

The Hollow Nightgirl Posted 11/4/2009 2:17:33 PM My investigations into invisibility continue, after a long sabbatical. They remain as unpredictable as ever, and as useless in terms of fighting crime.
This time, I logged in to find that a certain part - or parts - of my anatomy had become invisible. Given that many guys seem to talk to those particular parts rather than to my face, this was a pretty catastrophic development. What's worse, I've just discovered the bouncing boobs setting on my new Emerald Viewer, and this deprived me of the somewhat hypnotic sight of my boobies jiggling gently as I moved.
Luckily for me, and for fans of my boobs, a relog solved the disappearance, and they are now restored to their full, bouncing roundness and visibility. Feel free to come visit me if you'd like to check for yourselves!
Kisses

TE for two! Posted 11/3/2009 7:40:04 AM It's been ages since I blogged last, and even longer since I did one that was light-hearted, but the good news is that I'm just back from a holiday feeling much refreshed. We went to a small Scottish island called Islay. The weather was awful, but I was with a bunch of great friends and we had a good time, especially when we were sampling the products from some of the island's eight whisky distilleries.
So what have I been up to? Well, amongst my usual activities, which include running Heroes, saving the world and helping little old ladies across the street, I've discovered this rather fun little game called Tiny Empires (TE). It runs on a HUD, and basically you buy acres of (virtual) land, which earn you gold (alas, also virtual), which you then use to buy more land. You report to someone who is called your liege, and in turn you can take other people as your subjects. The more acres you have, the higher your ranking. I am now a princess in the Kingdom of Home, though thanks to the benevolence of the king, my title is not Princess but Superheroine! There are lots of little sub-quests and puzzles to solve, and most kingdoms have their own group, so you get to meet lots of other people. If you fancy having a go and would like a superheroine liege, drop me a line!
We've also been planing a big event at Heroes. It's our first birthday later this month, so expect a big party and lots of hero-related giveaways!
Kisses

Nightgirl Down Posted 10/13/2009 2:22:27 AM It's been a bad week. It all started when I was talking to Cherry, my DJ manager at Heroes, and moaning (again) about staff turning up to work in casual clothing. We only have one rule for our staff, and that's that when on duty, they wear a recognisably heroic (or villainous) costume. It's not a hard rule to follow, and we don't think even a particularly unpleasant one.
Anyway, Cherry sent out a notecard to the DJs, who are the main culprits. It must be something to do with the artistic temperament. To sweeten the note, we agreed that any staff could have any of my Heroes Clobber costumes that they wanted, free of charge, as a perk.
Resistance came from an unexpected quarter. One of the DJs, who I consider a particularly close friend, refused to be told what to wear, and quit. Both Cherry and I were surprised and disappointed by this, especially as this DJ was by no means the worst offender. However, we dealt with it, and covered her slots with our replacement DJ.
I talked to the DJ later that day. She wasn't making much sense to me, flitting wildly backwards and forwards between extremes. She started by telling me she was quitting SL altogether, then later said that she would come and play her sets in costume after all. And right at the end, she dropped her bombshell. She has a brain tumour. She's already fought cancer twice, and this time she's decided to just accept it. She probably won't see Christmas.
We are devastated. I've only known her since last Christmas, but she has been a part of our little family ever since. It feels every bit as real to me as losing a friend in the real world.
I met with Cherry and Garbo on Saturday. I'm lucky to have such good friends, and luckier still that they help me so much at Heroes. We were supposed to be holding a big event this coming Friday, organised by my wife MajorP. The DJ was going to be...yes, that's right. My friend. Cherry had stepped in when it appeared that she was just throwing a tantrum, but now, it just didn't feel right. We weren't prepared, and none of us had the will to put the effort in. So we decided to postpone it.
And now it's worse, because MajorP and I have had a big falling out over my decision. Where I am emotion, she is practical. She'd put a huge amount of work into the event, had invited lots of guests, and was having to deal with a lot of people who were very annoyed at the postponement. I understand that it wasn't a nice thing for her to have to do. I know that the club will go on, and that we need events like hers to keep people coming.
But at the same time, Heroes has always been more about friends than profit or popularity. Our vendors mostly pay a small percentage rather than rent, because they are there as a service to our guests. I sell my costumes cheap so people can get into the spirit without spending a fortune. I know this is a cliche, but I see our staff as a family. And I am faced with losing a member of our family. That is more important than any event.
All I wanted was to be held, to be told that I'd made the right decision, regardless of whether or not it actually was right. I didn't need to be made to feel worse than I already did.
And now, I just feel very, very confused. I needed to write this. I'm not sure I need to keep it here. And I'm not sure where to go from here. I am lost.

A Room Without A View Posted 9/29/2009 12:18:34 PM Well, it seems that my protected waterfont at Icewater was not quite so protected as I was lead to believe. I have a new neighbour, who has terraformed huge walls on two sides of my land, so that the view from the Igloo of Solitude, instead of nice open water, is now what you can see in this picture. No more beautiful sunsets. Just white walls. *sighs* Thanks, MiaSnow Miriam. I was looking forward to having neighbours, but perhaps I'm too social for my own good.

Dirty Trancing Posted 9/24/2009 2:31:28 AM I've been making more costumes for my little store lately. I've also gone back and revamped some of the first ones I made, so Wonder Woman (or as I call her, Rather Good Woman) now also comes with the rather clingy blue bodysuit that she wore while swimming, and Ms Marvel includes her Binary outfit complete with particle flame effect.
However, I wanted to show you this one, cos I am slightly proud of it. You won't find Hypno in any of the usual comic books. That's because I made it up all by myself. It's a unisex costume. I can't quite decided whether he / she is a hero or a villain, but I suspect perhaps a little of both. The kind of person who might rescue a damsel in distress, but cause her even more distress in the process. Using hypnotic powers and trances, this character can look into the deepest, darkest recesses of the human mind. Some of that is bound to rub off, right?
Anyway, I've added it to my vendors in Heroes and on xStreet. It's only 75L, which I think isn't too bad for a brand new hero!
Kisses
